Nature. Art. Story.

I’m Linda Burek, a photographer, author, educator, and needle-felting artist based in St. Augustine, Florida. My work begins with noticing—the expression of an animal, the texture of a feather, or a moment in nature that invites a closer look.

Through photographs, video, books, and wool artwork, I share my appreciation for animals and the places they call home.

Photography & Storytelling

I’m an award-winning photographer and the author of eight books, including guides to birding locations and local birds around St. Augustine. Birds and wildlife are central to my work, along with the landscapes and habitats that sustain them.

My photography also supports conservation and community projects. I led the Saint Augustine Camera Club’s Through the Lens Challenge in partnership with the GTM Reserve, documenting the variety of life found within the reserve.

Learning Together

I teach photography and bird identification, lead bird walks, and offer workshops that combine practical instruction with time observing the natural world.

My goal is to help people become more confident with their cameras, recognize the wildlife around them, and discover how much there is to see when we slow down and pay attention. I teach at the GTM Reserve and have also taught through Flagler College’s Lifelong Learning Program.

Art in Wool

Needle felting gives me another way to explore the animals I love. Working with wool, I create textured portraits of pets and wildlife, paying particular attention to the expressions and details that make each subject distinctive.

Custom pet portraits are available by commission. Visit my Pet Portraits page to see examples and learn how the process works.

Connected to Nature & Community

I’m a certified Florida Master Naturalist and a board member of the Saint Augustine Camera Club. My volunteer work has included serving on the board of the St. Johns Audubon Society, monitoring nesting birds at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm, and leading the St. Augustine Christmas Bird Count.

These experiences inform both my artwork and my teaching, keeping observation, curiosity, and care for the natural world at the heart of what I do.
